The PCC is seeking to recruit an Independent Chair to lead Merseyside Police's Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Scrutiny Panel.

Closing date: 31/08/2025
Salary: Remuneration of £216 per meeting. Also reimbursed for reasonable travel and subsistence costs.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic oversight and continuous improvement of policing responses to violence against women and girls.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and community confidence in Merseyside Police’s approach to VAWG-related matters.

Role Overview

The Chairperson will:

  • Preside over quarterly panel meetings, facilitating the review of anonymised case files and operational practices.
  • Lead the panel in formulating evidence-based recommendations for service improvement.
  • Ensure the panel operates with independence, impartiality, and integrity.
  • Liaise with senior police and crown prosecution service leadership and community stakeholders to promote constructive dialogue and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Assist in the completion of an annual report, which will include a review of learning and outcomes during the year. 

Candidate Profile

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in chairing boards, panels, or committees within a professional or voluntary context.
  • A strong commitment to addressing violence against women and girls.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • The ability to foster inclusive and respectful discussions among diverse stakeholders.

Applicants must be aged 18years and over, must live or work in the Merseyside area and be able to attend meetings during the day in office hours.
