Restorative Justice Steering Group
11:15 - 13:15 | 21.05.25 - Merseyside Merseyside Police HQ, 15 Cazneau Street, Liverpool. L3 3AN - CLOSED MEETING
Deputy PCC Jeanie Bell is chairing the next Restorative Justice Steering Group meeting which will bring together representatives from partner organisations from across Merseyside.
Restorative justice brings together people harmed by crime or conflict with those responsible for the harm, to find a positive way forward.
Restorative justice gives victims a chance to explain to offenders the real impact of their crime, to get answers to their questions. It allows victims to ask 'why me?' and provides them with the opportunity to challenge the offender’s behaviour.
It empowers victims, giving them the opportunity to meet or communicate with their offenders in a safe environment to have their say.
It also holds offenders to account for what they have done and helps them to take responsibility and make amends, it can help to stop reoffending.
In 2024 Merseyside Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell announced an expansion of the region’s restorative justice service for the next five years. Following a competitive tendering process, not-for-profit community interest company Restorative Solutions, was commissioned to continue delivering a victim-led restorative justice services from 1st April 2024 until 2027.
