Police and Crime Panel

- Knowsley Municipal Buildings, Huyton - LIVE-STREAMED
Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell

Merseyside's Police Commissioner is today meeting with the body which supports and scrutinises her work, the Police and Crime Panel.

Emily Spurrell meets six times a year with the Panel. They support the Police Commissioner, while holding responsibility for overseeing her work and making sure she is holding the Chief Constable to account.

They review the PCC's work and progress against her Police and Crime Plan, which is focused on putting victims at the heart of policing and is structured around three strategic priorities:

  • Fighting Crime and ASB;
  • Supporting Victims;
  • Preventing Harm

These priorities are underpinned by six key deliverables:

  1. Facilitating collaboration and partnership working
  2. Oversight and monitoring of Merseyside Police performance
  3. Value for money and effective spending
  4. Delivery of effective victim support services
  5. Delivery of key strategies
  6. Transparency and accountability

To support robust oversight and accountability, the PCC provides regular updates to the Police and Crime Panel on progress made against each deliverable. As deliverables are cross-cutting and contribute to all three strategic priorities, updates are structured to reflect achievements that demonstrate impact across the wider policing and crime agenda.

This meeting will focus on deliverable 5: delivery of key strategies report and performance dashboard. The PCC will also present her plans for Merseyside Police's budget for the next five years, specifically looking at her proposal for the precept, the element of council tax which is ring fenced for policing.

Police and Crime Panel meetings are always open to the public.

You can also watch the meeting live here at 11am on Thursday 5th February

The papers for this meeting are always published five days ahead of this meeting and can be found by going to the Police and Crime Panel section on the Knowsley Council website.
