PCC Emily Spurrell speaking at the Safer Town Centres Conference

Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell is hosting a major multi‑agency Safeguarding and Exploitation Training Event, bringing together leading organisations to strengthen the region’s response to child criminal and sexual exploitation and wider vulnerabilities.

The event will enable frontline professionals to benefit from multi-agency training from leading industry experts on child exploitation, sex-worker safety and rising cyber‑enabled violence against women and girls.

Sessions on the day will include:

  • Reign Collective CIC who will deliver specialist training to professionals from across Merseyside, focusing on how young people are groomed, coerced, and exploited, and how frontline staff can intervene effectively.
  • Merseyside Police’s Operation Sanctuary Team which will provide insight into identifying exploitation, safeguarding those most at risk, and recognising the behaviours of perpetrators operating within local communities.
  • Changing Lives will outline their work supporting sex workers and individuals exploited or trafficked into the sex industry, highlighting the challenges victims face and the specialist support required.
  • Barnardo’s will present on their vital role in protecting vulnerable children across Merseyside, sharing early‑help approaches and partnership models that prevent harm.
  • The event will also feature Merseyside Police’s Cyber Team, who will brief attendees on the growing threat of cyber‑enabled violence against women and girls and the emerging patterns of online abuse.

This collaborative event reinforces Merseyside’s commitment to protecting vulnerable people, improving early identification of exploitation, and strengthening safeguarding practice across the region.
