Merseyside's Police Commissioner has paid tribute to the courage, professionalism, and compassion shown in the aftermath of the distressing incident on Water Street.

Emily Spurrell said: "It’s been an incredibly challenging and difficult time for our region.

"My thoughts remain with all those affected by the distressing incident on Water Street, especially those who have been injured and their families.

"I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the incredible first responders who acted with such bravery and professionalism last Monday evening.

"Their swift actions prevented further harm, protected lives, and stopped a devastating incident from escalating.

"I also want to thank the people of Merseyside.

"In the face of adversity, our communities have once again shown their strength, compassion, and unity. Local businesses, community groups, and individuals have come together to support one another in remarkable ways—offering help, comfort, and solidarity when it was needed most.

"Your kindness, resilience, and sense of togetherness have been a powerful reminder of what makes this region so special.

"Please remember to be careful with what you share online and not to speculate on a live investigation.

"Anyone affected by the incident can access Victim Care Merseyside – a dedicated service that provides free and confidential advice and support for all victims of crime."
