This summer, communities across Merseyside will be eager to make the most of their local parks and other green spaces, soaking up the summer vibes and Merseyside Police is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring everyone can safely enjoy all that summer has to offer in their local areas.

As part of the Government’s Safer Streets Summer, our Local Policing officers and colleagues in specialist teams will be demonstrating the work they do every day of the year to keep our public safe.

Local policing officers, together with officers from specialist teams, including targeted policing, investigations, air support, traffic, dogs and mounted will be working together to tackle local concerns raised by residents at regular policing surgeries taking place in libraries, coffee shops and local community hubs.

Anti-social behaviour, burglary, road safety, serious violence including knife crime and personal robbery, sexual offences (VAWG) and retail crime are all areas of focus for the Safer Streets Summer campaign, which forms part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee announced by the Government earlier this month.

Local Policing Superintendent Sarah Rotherham, explained: “We know that longer days and hot weather combined with more people off work and school can lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour and crime. And throughout the summer we’ll be out in our local communities working to prevent and disrupt those who are causing harm and fear and depriving law-abiding people of their chance to enjoy the summer.

“You – our communities – are telling us in our surveys and at our surgeries what matters the most to you and you are telling us where our focus should be in your area.

“Working together with you and partners to problem-solve and tackle anti-social behaviour, shoplifting and personal robbery, supporting victims of domestic abuse, and diverting young people from offending, can make a real positive difference to our communities.

“Merseyside Police has always believed that good engagement with communities is at the heart of neighbourhood policing, and we have listened to your concerns when shaping operational activity this summer. You will see our officers carrying out preventative stop searches, hotspot policing, scrambler and e-bike seizures, executing search warrants, quad bike patrols, and drink and drug roadside testing. We’ll also use less visible tactics including operations utilising plain-clothes officers and air support. We are determined to build on the good work that has already been happening across Merseyside.

Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell said: "It's vital that everyone across Merseyside feels safe and supported as we head into summer.

“Anti-social behaviour can have a devastating impact on communities, creating fear and disrupting the lives of law-abiding residents. That’s why I fully support the Safer Streets Summer campaign highlighting Merseyside Police's relentless and proactive approach to tackling these issues head-on all year round.

"This is about more than enforcement; it’s about creating and cultivating lasting connections. By listening to residents, engaging with young people, and working alongside local partners, we can create safer, more inclusive spaces where everyone feels they belong.

“Whether it's through community engagement, patrols in hotspot areas, or youth diversion activities, we’re showing that policing is about partnership and prevention, and I know that our local teams are working very hard to make every street, every home and every individual feel protected.

"Summer should be a time for fun, so I want to encourage everyone to take pride in their local area and support one another. Together, we can make Merseyside a place where people feel safe, respected, and able to enjoy everything their neighbourhood has to offer."

Superintendent Rotherham, added: “Engagement with our communities is vital to help us in the fight against crime, which protects our local communities. As part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, Merseyside Police and the other forces across the UK, is updating our website to ensure people can have access to the details of their dedicated neighbourhood team so they can be contacted directly.

“Along with other forces, we’re also guaranteeing a 72-hour response from those local policing teams if people email in with concerns.

“We want to build a stronger sense of connection between residents and their local teams, with local problems being met with bespoke, local solutions. There is no one size fits all.”

The Safer Streets Summer campaign has launched across the UK today, Monday 30 June, and will run until 30 September, and is part of the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which places a greater emphasis on the importance of Local Policing nationally. As part of this, every neighbourhood in England and Wales will have dedicated teams spending their time on the beat, with guaranteed police patrols in town centres and other hotspot areas at peak times.
