Merseyside launches its latest Road Safety Strategy Annual Report during national Road Safety Week

-

The Merseyside Road Safety Partnership has launched its latest edition of the Liverpool City Region Road Safety Strategy Annual Report highlighting activity, campaigns, initiatives and data changes over the past 12 months.

Coinciding with Road Safety Week, the strategy reflects a renewed regional commitment to Vision Zero, a future where no one is killed or seriously injured on Merseyside’s roads. Developed collaboratively with partners, the plan focuses on five key pillars: Safe Roads, Safe Speeds, Safe Vehicles, Safe Behaviour, and Post-Crash Response.

Building on strong foundations, the report showcases real commitment made over the past 12 months. Everything from innovative education programmes and targeted enforcement to community-led campaigns such as Brake for the Snake and Who’s Driving You Home? Together, these initiatives have engaged thousands of residents, aimed at making our roads a safer place and providing strengthening support for victims and families affected by road traffic collisions.

Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell said: “Every life lost or changed by a road traffic collision is one too many. This annual report demonstrates the progress we’ve made together – from reducing casualties to delivering innovative education and enforcement initiatives – but it also reminds us of the work still ahead.

“Our commitment to Vision Zero is unwavering. By combining evidence-led interventions with strong community engagement, we can create safer roads for everyone, whether they’re walking, cycling, driving, or using public transport.

“I want to thank all our partners and volunteers for their dedication to this shared goal. Together, we can make Merseyside a region where every journey is safe.”

Merseyside Road Safety Partnership Operations Coordinator, Paul Fletcher said: “This report represents a united commitment across Merseyside to make our roads safer for everyone.

“By working together, and engaging directly with our communities, we can make our roads safer for everyone and move closer to a future with Zero road deaths.

“The Merseyside Road Safety Partnership will continue to work closely with national and local partners to deliver the strategy’s ambitions, combining enforcement, education, and engineering to protect every road user across the region.”
