A safer summer for Merseyside: launching our Safer Streets Summer campaign

"As the sun begins to shine on Merseyside, I’m proud to launch our Safer Streets Summer campaign—an ambitious, united effort to make our town centres safer, more welcoming, and more resilient to crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB)" - says Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner

From now until the end of September, we’re stepping up our efforts with targeted enforcement, community engagement, and partnership led initiatives across key hotspots in our region.

It builds on the work we do every day and reflects our unwavering commitment to prevention, partnership, and pride in our communities. It’s also a vital part of delivering on the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee - ensuring every community feels safe.

Where we’re focusing our efforts

Working hand-in-hand with Merseyside Police, local councils, and community partners, we’ve identified the areas where crime and ASB are hitting hardest—places where people should feel safe to shop, socialise, and simply spend time.

These are the spaces where families gather, where young people meet, and where communities thrive. And this summer, they’ll benefit from bespoke enforcement, enhanced support, and visible reassurance—doubling down on the work that already goes on, day in and day out, to keep our streets safe.

By putting more officers on foot, we’re not just preventing crime—we’re building trust, reducing harm, and reclaiming our public spaces for the people who live, work, and love here.

What we’re doing

We’re deploying a wide range of tactics to make a real, lasting difference:

  • High-visibility patrols, plain clothes operations, and mobile police stations.
  • Problem-solving policing funded through the Hotspot Action Fund.
  • Partnership walkabouts, CCTV upgrades, and targeted licensing checks.
  • Youth diversion programmes through my £460,000 Youth Empowerment Scheme.
  • Community outreach, including street pastors, school engagement, and ASB awareness campaigns.

We’re also backing vital initiatives like Operation Empower to prevent violence against women and girls, Operation Parksafe to protect our green spaces, and Operation Calor to tackle youth violence in public spaces.

Working together

This campaign is powered by partnership and people. From the Travelsafe Unit patrolling our transport network, to local councils leading clean-ups and youth activities, every agency is playing a part.

Through our Together As One campaign we will also be celebrating the everyday heroes—residents, volunteers, and frontline workers—who are making Merseyside safer every day.
Keeping you informed

Throughout the summer, we’ll be sharing stories of progress and impact—showing how Merseyside Police is turning up the heat on criminals, and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the organisations working tirelessly to protect our communities all year round.

We’ll also shine a light on the power of prevention, and encourage everyone to speak up, report concerns, and be part of the solution.

A Safer, Stronger Merseyside

This campaign is about more than reducing crime. It’s about restoring confidence, reclaiming our town centres, and empowering communities to thrive.

Whether you’re shopping in town, enjoying a park, or heading out for the evening—I want you to feel safe, supported, and proud of where you live.

Together, let’s make this a Safer Summer for Merseyside.
