Safer Streets improvement works complete on Knowsley estate with final residents set to move in

The final two properties on a housing estate on a Huyton estate, benefitting from a complete renovation, are now ready to be lived in.
Tenants have also been secured for the properties on Primrose Court, which has seen work completed as part of the Home Office’s Safer Streets project with £367,000 of funding, secured by the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner.
Over the last year, a further eight properties have benefitted from repairs and renovations and are now occupied or in the process of being occupied.
As well as repairs and renovations to the homes, the estate has benefitted from the installation of CCTV, street lighting, a new road surface and boundary fences installed – all aimed at preventing anti-social behaviour in the area.
In addition, and following consultation with the local community, children’s play equipment was installed at Hillside Community Centre as well as improvement works to the surrounding green spaces.
Primrose Court has been a priority area for the Council and partners following historic issues caused by the street being unadopted and left unlit and in a poor state of repair by the original developers. As a result, the area attracted incidents of fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Now, it has been transformed into a desirable residential area with the majority of properties now occupied.
Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell said: “This area of Knowsley was one where we had seen spikes in crime and Anti-social behaviour, so we wanted to address this, using funding from the Safer Streets project, to put practical, effective solutions in place to reduce ASB and make it a safer, cleaner and healthier place to live.
“Tackling anti-social behaviour is one of my top priorities and Primrose Court is just one example of my commitment to improving safety within those communities where residents are facing challenging issues, so that they feel more secure.
“I’m delighted to hear that the final two properties are now ready to be lived in. The work that has gone into this project is making a vital difference to this area; providing safer and engaging spaces for residents and helping to change things for them for the better.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and added “I’m delighted to see the transformation of Primrose Court. This is a clear example of Knowsley Better Together in action and what can be achieved when partners and the community work together. The works completed really have made a huge difference to not only the current residents in Primrose Court, but also the wider community.”
Local residents have also shared with Council officers how “the street looks great and life is much quieter” and how residents have expressed increased feelings of pride in the local area.
